Referral criteria
To ensure that children and young people who are victims of domestic abuse receive the appropriate support, CDASS accepts referrals based on the following criteria:
1. Age Range: The child or young person must be between the ages of 7 to 16 years old.
2. Exposure to Domestic Abuse: The child or young person must have been exposed to domestic abuse in their home or community. This includes witnessing or experiencing any form of abuse, including physical, emotional, sexual, or psychological abuse, within a domestic environment.
3. Current or Historical Impact: The child or young person may be referred whether the domestic abuse is ongoing or has occurred in the past, as long as there is evidence of the abuse having had a current or past impact on their emotional, mental, or behavioural well-being.

4. Parent or Caregiver Consent: For individuals under the age of 16, a referral must be made with the consent of the child’s parent or primary caregiver. In cases where parental consent is not possible or the parent is involved in the abuse, referrals may still be considered based on the child’s need for immediate support.
5. Level of Need: Referrals are accepted for children and young people who require emotional and psychological support to cope with the effects of domestic abuse, including but not limited to anxiety, trauma, behavioural issues, and difficulties in forming healthy relationships.
6. Geographical Area: CDASS is unique in offering its online service to child victims of domestic abuse living in the UK, allowing access to support regardless of their location within the country.
7. Commitment to Engagement: The child or young person should show willingness to engage with the support services offered. This can include participation in online talk therapy, text-based support, or related support services.
8. Risk Assessment: Referrals will be reviewed based on a risk assessment. CDASS reserves the right to prioritize referrals based on the urgency and level of support required. Cases involving children at significant risk of harm will be prioritized.
9. Safeguarding Considerations: Referrals will be reviewed to ensure that safeguarding concerns, including potential risks of further harm or neglect, are identified and managed. If the child or young person is at risk of further harm, appropriate safeguarding protocols will be followed.
Referral process
-
Referrals can be made by parents, caregivers, schools, academies, professionals, or the young person themselves.

-
Referrals should be submitted through the CDASS website, or via email with appropriate details and consent where required.

-
Each referral will be assessed based on the criteria listed above. CDASS will then offer appropriate support or alternative service referrals if necessary.
If you are unsure whether a referral meets the criteria or need assistance with the process, please contact support@cdass.org for guidance.
