Talking Really Helps Intervention Programme

Talking Really Helps is an eight-week talk therapy programme for children and young people aged 7 to 16 affected by domestic abuse. Delivered online at home or school, it provides a safe space to process emotions, build resilience, and develop healthy coping strategies.

The programme includes educational awareness about domestic abuse—its nature, impact, and recognising unhealthy behaviours—along with safety planning and opportunities for positive interaction with mothers to rebuild trust.

Through engaging weekly sessions, participants are supported in healing, practicing mindfulness, and improving any negative behaviours, with the goal of helping them feel better than when they initially started.

How it works

1. Start Your Referral: Visit our website and complete the TRH referral form. We’ll respond within 5 working days.

2. Acceptance and Documentation: After acceptance, you'll receive important documents, including the TRH consent form, and a proposed date for the TRH Check-In Meeting.

3. Waiting List: We maintain a waiting list but prioritise severe or high-risk cases to minimise waiting times.

4. Confirming Details: Once the start date and schedule are set, we’ll prepare for your child's official entry into the programme.

5. Support Worker Assignment: Your child or young person will be assigned a dedicated TRH Support Worker for eight weeks, with regular feedback from you and your child/young person.

6. Professional Collaboration: With child and parental consent, we’ll communicate with other professionals involved in your child or young person's life to share updates and impacts.

7. Programme Review Meeting: At the end of eight weeks, we’ll hold a meeting with relevant agencies to discuss outcomes from your child or young person's participation.

The type of things we live through as a child have a
big impact on our adult lives. Domestic abuse is one
of the most damaging experiences a man, woman or child can experience in their lifetime.
